The shift to next-generation distribution systems is taking place in Europe. The main topic of the author’s one-year visit was to survey and investigate technological issues to realize the hybrid system. The UK is tackling the above issues in cooperation with Ireland and other island nations as well as continental countries. Technologies that need to be developed and evaluated relate to the high-voltage DC insulation.
