As the standardization aimed at the application of VQCs to a substation of any bus configuration, VQCs were considered to have functions and redundancy which are not required to some substations. By reviewing the installed substation equipment and its configuration and surveying the actual usage of control functions, The authors have developed new VQCs with the rationalized specification.The specification categorizes VQCs into two groups, VQCs for 500 kV substations and for the other substations. In the new specification, the component configuration of VQCs in comparatively small-scale substations was drastically changed except for 500 kV substations. In addition, due to the improved performance of hardware, the number of circuit boards was reduced integrating different functions.
