Because the Shinkansen lines go through more than one electric utility area and there are two utility frequencies of 50Hz and 60Hz in Japan, some parts of the Shinkansen traction feeders are linked with both 50Hz and 60Hz networks. Although the traction feeder is operated with either frequency in normal conditions, the feeder might accidentally be fed by both 50Hz and 60Hz simultaneously.
