It is usually mixed with filler to improve mechanical and thermal characteristics. The epoxy resin is, in some case, exposed to a severe condition with high humidity. From the viewpoint of the reliability of insulation system in various electrical apparatus, it is very important to investigate the relation between microstructure of these composite materials and the treeing phenomena in humid conditions. We have been studied the effect of humidity on treeing phenomenon in filled epoxy resins under AC voltage. It is suggested that humid condition bringing moisture in the specimens would weaken the electric strength of resin and brings easier splitting off of epoxy-filler interface, leading to the acceleration of tree propagation.
