Although FACTS device covers several power electronics based apparatus used for AC power transmission system, in this paper the minimum required capacities of UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller) and IPFC (Interline Power Flow Controller) both of which employs self-commutated, voltage-sourced switching converters are determined by OPF method for providing particularly a satisfied solution of overload when a transmission system violates its thermal loading limits.
