Its special electronic and optical properties are attributed to quantum confinement, dielectric confinement and surface effects. The third-order NLO properties of CdS and Ag2S semiconductor colloids with different surface modifications were studied experimentally by the backward degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) technique. Both colloids showed enhancement of third-order susceptibilities due to local field effect and two photon absorption (TPA) resonance.
