A vapor shield of a VI is a factor for the determination of the electric field strength on the contact edge as well as the field distribution inside the VI. By giving the vapor shield a well-defined electric potential, the impulse breakdown voltage can be increased. The present study shows a field emission measurement of potential-controlled VI under AC voltage.
