However, certain mal-functioning of differential relay has been reported which leads for unnecessary tripping of differential relay. This unnecessary tripping can lead to a power blackout and deterioration of the services provided by the Utility. So, there is a need for the development of improved classifier technique. This paper aims to present a methodology for identification of faults in power transformers, by distinguishing internal faults from other conditions, as energization of the transformer, external faults and saturation of the current transformer.
