要約(日本語): We present a method for evaluating blood pressure from the carotid artery using an image-free ultrasound device ? ARTSENS. It was validated on 390 subjects (45±10 years) from the urban, rural, and semi-urban regions in India. In compliance with theory, the carotid pulse pressure (25.3±9.4 mmHg) and systolic pressure (99.4±16.5 mmHg) were significantly lower (p<0.0001) than those of the brachial artery (39.7±14.2 mmHg, 113.7±20.0 mmHg). Age-related increase in the carotid pulse pressure was statistically significant (p < 0.01). ROC analysis yielded carotid pressure cutoffs of 111/80 mmHg to categorize hypertensives. In view of the demonstrated functionality, the device is a reliable, easy-to-use tool for high-throughput screening applications.
