Each company’s patent management facilitated the parallel expansion mechanism of technology introduction and in-house R&D. The characteristics of Japanese patent management, such as the internalization of large part of application procedures and emphasis on filing, were the cause and effect of the patent department’s efficient control of the flow of technology and information within and outside the organization.
