要約(英語): The earth-return impedance and admittance of an overhead cable are necessary to study EMD due to VFTs in a GIS. Carson’s and Pollaczek’s formulas cannot deal with the displacement current of air and earth, and the uniform distribution of current is assumed. _x000D_ In 1955, Kikuchi made clear that Carson’s, Pollaczek’s and Sunde’s formulas were based on transverse electromagnetic (TEM) wave propagation, and thus could not be applied to study high frequency phenomena, because the wave propagation is TEM at low frequencies but at high frequencies it becomes TM and/or TE (non-TEM), which is called “mode transition” by Kikuchi. We need an accurate earth-return admittance to analyze the mode transition which is very important to study the EMD due to VFTs._x000D_
