Student struggles stem from deficiencies in fundamental concepts learned in elementary and junior high school, not just high school mathematics. Insufficient reading, diagramming, and logical writing skills, along with rote memorization of formulas without understanding, hinder learning. This paper discusses our remedial math efforts, challenges, and future directions.
