要約(日本語): The well-established theory of contamination flashover suggests that the local high current density near to the electrodes drys out the pollution layer and form dry band resulting in an arc discharge. But in the case of polymeric materials with good hydrophobicity, the presence of water droplets should be considered. Water droplets will be formed on the wetly contaminated layer on the surface of polymer insulators exposed to rain and moisture. These droplets cause a local electric field enhancement due to their spherical shape and high permittivity. When the value of ohmic heating from local high electrical energy is over the energy dissipation needed for water evaporation, the dry band forms. In this study, the formation of dry band was investigated by the simulating calculation of electrical energy due to the presence of droplets. In addition, the heat transfer and temperature distribution was also computed to analyze the propagation of dry band, after a dry band arcing happened. Simultaneously, a real experiment was done to confirm the simulating results.
