要約(日本語): Renewable generation sources such as PV (photovoltaic) generators and wind turbines may be one of the most economical and efficient solution to provide electricity in small isolated power systems and islands. Nevertheless, the intermittent nature of renewable sources creates problems in the operation of power system. For this reason to increase the value of the renewable sources and to ensure stability in the power system operation, integration of batteries or other energy storage systems is commonly recognized as the most promising solution. Because of the high costs of batteries it is essential to design them in an optimal way with the intent to reduce as much as possible the dimension of the battery itself and, at the same time, to ensure safety operation of the power system. In this paper, a study for dimensioning a battery system is presented. The system considered is a small island with high renewable penetration; analyzing the cost performance of the battery and the impact on system reliability the study aim to find the optimal quantity of renewable and battery to be integrated in the grid.
