要約(日本語): This paper is focused to investigate a possibility of the phase velocity on an overhead conductor exceeding the light velocity in free space based on a transmission line (TL) approach and numerical electromagnetic analysis methods. When an accurate earth-return impedance derived by Kikuchi and Wedepohl and an earth-return admittance by Wise and Nakagawa are adopted, the phase velocity can exceed the light velocity in a frequency region where mode transition from the earth-return wave propagation to Sommerfeld-Goubau propagation occurs. Similar phenomena are also observed in NEC and FDTD computated results.
