要約(日本語): In vitro cultures have long been used to investigate basic properties of neuronal networks. In this study, we ask the question if neuronal networks without functional circuits are capable of long-term memories. To answer the question, a hippocampal-cortical co-culture model was used. Our co-culture model was developed by connecting dissociated hippocampal-cortical networks through micro-tunnel device. Memory was designed as spatial-temporal events as series of electrical stimuli given first in one neuronal network, followed by series of stimuli in another network with a delay of time. Our results showed modification in evoked response by electrical stimulation, and lasted in trails after several minutes, suggesting possibility of spatial-temporal memory ability in basic neuronal networks.
