要約(日本語): 生乳の生産プロセスでは、潜在性乳房炎という感染症が問題となっている。その問題点としては、早期発見が難しく、治療による完治が困難となり、結果として様々な弊害により深刻な経済損失を生じさせる。本研究では、生乳中に存在する好中球が産生する活性酸素量を測定することにより乳房炎を生産現場で簡便かつ早期に検出するための新規検査用デバイスの構築を目的とした。

要約(英語): To identify dairy cows suffering from subclinical mastitis, we used the fact that the number of neutrophils increases in raw milk of infected cows. The neutrophils, a type of white blood cells, produce superoxide (O2－). Therefore, the amount of O2－ produced in raw milk can be used as an indicator for mastitis. To this end, we fabricated a device consisting of thin-film three-electrode systems. A distinct current increase was observed with raw milk samples obtained from cows suffering from mastitis. Opsonized zymosan had an effect to activate the neutrophils and improve the detection sensitivity.
