要約(日本語): Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to the depletion of dopamine in the striatum, and it is thought to cause changes of neuronal activities in basal ganglia. However, the relation of the changes of the neuronal activities of each region of basal ganglia and the pathological state of PD is ambiguous. Here we show that the activity of the dorsolateral striatum is correlated to the pathological state of PD. We found in the mice model of PD (PD-mice) that the activity of dorsolateral striatum analyzed by activation-induced manganese-enhanced MRI (AIME-MRI) is significantly correlated to tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactivity in striatum, which is known to correlate to the motor performance in PD mice.
