要約(日本語): 第5世代移動通信規格「5G」の商用サービスの開始に即して，通信技術は自動運転や遠隔医療への応用の期待など，社会基盤の核となり得る技術となった．5Gへの世界的な移行に伴い，通信技術に対する社会貢献への期待は国際的にも非常に高いものとなっている．そのため，通信分野ではより一層の高い技術力が求められている．本稿では，5Gとともに国際的な研究開発が盛んな通信技術「LPWA」に着目し，その技術概要と今後の展望を述べる．

要約(英語): In line with the start of commercial services for the 5th generation mobile communication standard “5G”, communication technology has become the core of social infrastructure, such as the expectation of application to automatic driving and telemedicine. With the global shift to 5G, expectations for social contributions to communications technology have become very high internationally. Therefore, higher technical capabilities are required in the communication field. In this paper, we focus on the new communication technology of Low Power Wide Area (LPWA), which has been actively researched and developed internationally as well as 5G.
