This paper reports experimental results on the DC arc interruption using a PMMA cylinder or a quartz cylinder. These materials were selected to investigate the arc resistance rise by the ablation of the polymer cylinder with an arc shrinking. The experimental results suggested that the shrinking of the arc conductive diameter rises the arc resistance in the high current region. In addition, the ablation and consequent the admixing of the PMMA vapor rises the arc resistance in the low current region.
