要約(英語): This report describes an engineering ethics education using distance learning (online) to enhance problem-solving skills. Until 2019, before the coronavirus (covid-19), group discussions were used as one of active learning (AL) to develop problem-solving skills. A group discussion of 4 to 8 students led to the development of multiple solutions. We made the students reconsider those solutions. In 2020, as an alternative to the group discussions, during online lectures, solutions of about 70 students were expressed using real-time chat and collected and re-discussed using a questionnaire aggregation system in the cloud. We have analyzed the correlation between the test scores in engineering ethics and the pre- and post-self-evaluation results, which were measured by the fundamental competencies for working persons. In the limited analysis results, there was no difference in the test scores between the AL and online. On the other hand, the self-evaluation of the fundamental competencies regarding growth has declined. In AL, the self-evaluation regarding the ability to deliver a message and to detect issues were improved among the 12 elements of the fundamental competencies, but online, none of them improved.
