要約(英語)：This report reviews the history of protection relays from the analog electromechanical relays in the early days of their development to the digital relays of recent years. Taking into account changes in the surrounding circumstances, the details are investigated and summarized from a comprehensive view of the entire protection relay system. Specifically, the roles and basic configurations of protection relays, changes and current equipment conditions of protection relays, cases of digital relay standardization, optimization and advancement, and issues and countermeasures in digital relay operation and maintenance, are summarized based on the relevant literature and survey results for facilities in Japan, which offers practical content for engineers and others involved in protection relay systems. Also, the report summarizes issues and approaches to recent changes in the environment surrounding protection relays, such as the recent mass interconnection of renewable energy, and trends in new protection relay system technologies, such as implementing new digital relays through technological innovation. It also summarizes examples of applications of new technologies. Thus, the content of this report is an investigation of the progress of protection relay technology and technology trends in Japan and abroad. It also enables young engineers and students to broaden their perspectives and become interested in the field of protection relay systems, and can be used as a bridge to individual technical literature as needed.
