要約(日本語): 我が国においては、昭和40年代にデータ通信需要の顕在化により、データ交換機の研究が開始された。その頃、米国において、冷戦時代に対応する頑健な通信網として、パケット網の研究が進められていた。データ交換方式には、電話交換の発展形である回線交換と、蓄積交換形のパケット交換がある。本稿では、我が国における電子交換の黎明期から、データ交換機の研究開発へと進められた歴史について述べる。なお、公衆網に限定する。

要約(英語): In Japan, since data communication demand became apparent around Showa 40's, the study of data switching system has been started. In this paper, we present the research and development history of data switching system from the dawn of the electronic switching system technology to the introductions of digital data circuit switching system and packet switching system.
