要約(英語): We have clarified the actual situation of the development process of DAT (Digital Audio Tape) and the subsequent process of technology diversion based on an engineer's verbal narrative of the history. We specifically focused on the engineers’ intention and the circumstantial changes during the development process. Through this investigation, we learned that Sony's strategical switch from DAT to DDS was initiated by the DAT engineers. We also confirmed that using testimony obtained from oral history to analyze the mechanism or the process of specific innovation, has adequate potential to obtain exclusive information to explain the dynamics of the development process.
