要約(日本語): Sensory-capable prosthetic devices are beginning to be trialled in humans, but many of the designs lack the ability to stimulate a specific sensation type. They must therefore be tested repeatedly in clinical settings in order to programme the device and to achieve adequate functionality for each recipient. Regenerative axon guidance techniques show promise in being able to reduce the training period required. We propose the use of characteristics of regenerative electrode design with specifically guided axon regeneration to control where neuron types regenerate in a device, with the goal of enabling pre-determined axon mapping in an electrode device.
