要約(日本語): In this paper, we present the response of HeLa cells exposed to the intense pulsed ultraviolet radiation (PUV). PUV source is driven by a pulse current (120 ns) short capillary discharge. The measured spectrum ranges from the vacuum UV to UVA. After the exposure, we examine the irradiation effect on the cell viability and proliferation. Dead cells were detected by the fluorescent dye propidium iodide (PI). A real time cell imaging system was employed to monitor the cell growth. Also, Caspase-3/7 activation of HeLa cells caused by PUV was measured temporally. Experimental results show that cell survival rate decreased rapidly when the number of pulse exceeded about 300 shots. 800 pulses cause about 50% dead cells. HeLa cell proliferation shows a hormetic mode response to the pulse number. Cell growth was inhibited by large number of pulses. While, it is notable that cell proliferation was promoted after exposure to 10 and 50 pulses PUV induced proliferation change of HeLa cells was also discussed preliminary in the term of Caspase-3/7 activation caused by irradiation.
