要約(英語): To increase the revenue of railway undertakings, yield management techniques can be adopted by setting up a quota for discounts on the ticket sales of reserved seats on express trains. We developed a method to calculate the optimum sales quota by estimating the demand for discount tickets and the behavior of passengers seeking the next-best options when they are not able to buy the tickets that were their first choice. We conducted a trial sale by applying the calculated sales quota to the actual seat reservation system and confirmed that the proposed method can increase revenue and facilitate decision-making for setting up sales quotas.
