要約(日本語): The atmospheric pressure arc plasma was used to decompose biphenyl. This compound was chosen as a cheaper and less-toxic substitute of dioxins. The comparison of electric characteristics of the discharge and plasma motion in pure argon gas and with biphenyl carried by argon gas was done. In the experiment discharge gaps varied from 5 to 20 mm, the current ranged from 50 A to 150 A. Biphenyl was almost fully decomposed in a short time due to high arc plasma temperature. Main product was amorphous carbon.
