要約(日本語): A composite insulator is said to have a very high flashover voltage under contaminated condition because of the hydrophobic surface. In spite of the above, the general application practice is to provide a leakage distance the same with the conventional insulators. This practice may be considered to take into account the gradual loss of hydrophobicity with time by rainfall, ultraviolet ray, surface discharge, etc. Also, it should be noted that the extraordinary wetting condition of the surface resulted in a flashover voltage lower than the porcelain counterpart. Thus, the basic study on wetting condition of the surface is considered essential, and the authors have been carrying out studies in this area.
