要約(日本語): Nanoscale material is a growing hot area in NLO research. Its special electronic and optical properties are attributed to quantum confinement, dielectric confinement and surface effects. The third-order NLO properties of CdS and Ag2S semiconductor colloids with different surface modifications were studied experimentally by the backward degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) technique. Both colloids showed enhancement of third-order susceptibilities due to local field effect and two photon absorption (TPA) resonance. The influence of the surface states on the NLO properties was emphasized and discussed by a three-level model under TPA resonance.
