要約(英語): The three-level neutral-point-clamped converter called NPC converter was invented in Japan in early 1980s and since then a lot of multilevel converter topologies including modular multilevel cascade converters (MMCCs) have been proposed to improve power quality and to increase voltage/power ratings. On the other hand, the practical examples of multilevel power converters are mainly the NPC converters, and there are few practical examples of the new circuit topologies mentioned above. The main reason of this is that the circuit configuration and operating principles are complicated and have not fully understood. The multilevel power conversion technical committee was established for the purpose of summarizing the basic principles of multilevel power converters, rather than investing the latest technological trends in multilevel power conversion technologies. The basic circuit method, control method, and operating principles of the above were investigated and summarized as a technical report with a focus on 1) the circuit configurations, 2) the operating principles depending on the circuit topology of the multilevel power converter, 3) the control method of the multilevel converter.
